2 Months, 10 Days

It's been exactly 2 months and 10 days since the start of school.  That's approximately 2 months and 4 days of the exact same routine:  Wake up, go to classes or the library (if it's the weekend), go to the library (if it's a weekday) after classes, go home, sleep.  So that sums that up.  As for the 6 other days, here's what I've been up to:

1) One night, a few of us went out to Sunderland to watch Ratatat.  There were hardly any people at the concert but it was nice.  Ratatat was really good.  After the concert, we met the band, stumbled and peed all over town, got some cheesy chips, got a cab, called it a night.

2) Another night, my friend Joe and I went to watch !!! open for Maximo Park.  The crowd was sparse for !!! but it picked up once Maximo Park came on.  Reception for !!! was abysmal.  But they were still incredible.  Maximo Park's popular here mainly cuz one of the guys went to Northumbria, and the whole band's from Newcastle I think.  I thought they were boring.  Like doing it with my sister.

3) After midterms, Joe, Mars and I headed down to Middlesbrough mainly for two reasons.  First, to see The Rapture perform at The Empire; and second, to check out MIMA (Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art), an art gallery that just opened.  The Rapture show was insanely good.  The Empire was an incredible venue, the crowd was really into it, and The Rapture seriously rocked the house.  Almost like a Dwight bobblehead.  MIMA was pretty cool too.  It's a really gorgeous building and the exhibit was pretty interesting.  It featured old and new artists' works juxtaposed to showcase various influences.  Featured artists included Warhol, Picasso, Pollock, and the new guys whose names I didn't know like Gavin Turk and Damien Hurst.  I don't know that much about art but it felt nice to concentrate on something that wasn't an illustration about a second messenger pathway or an illustration of some part of the human body.  Or cells.  Cells all look the same.  I don't like cells.

4) Last weekend, about 25 people from our class flew to Dublin for St. Patrick's Day.  We left at 7:30 am and our flight coming back was the next morning at 6:30 am.  It was insane.  We all started together at the Guinness Factory, had a few pints, then proceeded toward the St. Patty's Day parade.  This is where we kinda split up and I left with 4 other people.  The parade was pretty good.  Lots of cool floats and costumes.  The rest of the day was spent going from bar to bar to bar, drinking pints and pints and pints.  It was exhausting.  We were all tired by about 4 pm.  After a long dinner, we decided to catch the !!! show in Dublin that night.  That's when Robin O'Houllahan showed up.  The rest of the night was amazing.  The !!! show was THE best concert I've ever been to by far.  The crowd was so into it.  We left the concert pretty energized, went to another pub, drank some more.  Then the night gets a bit hazy, but we got to the airport, and somehow got home the next morning.  The end.

5) and 6) aren't as exciting because they were days I just bummed around at home because I was sick.  There were a few other nights of drinking and stumbling home but those aren't exciting either.

This coming Saturday, I'm going to rent a car with a few buds, and we're going to drive along the coast and countryside all day.  Major attractions along the way include multiple castles (including Alnwick castle, where the Harry Potter movies are shot), Hadrian's Wall which is like a mini Wall of China, and The Angel of the North.  Then on Monday, Kelvin and Gary are coming from Toronto.  How crazy is that?!?!?  And then for Easter weekend, Joe and I are going to Budapest, which is going to be freaking SWEET.  What's going on in Budapest?  Here's a better question asshole, what ISN'T going on in Budapest?

So all in all, things have been pretty good.  As long as I don't fail outta med school, it should be an interesting 4 years.  Attached below are some pictures.  Cheers!

Dapper Joe, O'Houllahan and Janice in the entrance to an alley way late night in Dublin.  Pretty creepy if you ask me.

This picture was taken outside MIMA.  I can't rotate it for some reason.  Anyway, there's a huge bottle on exhibit.  But if you look closely, THERE'S A MONSTER IN THE BOTTLE!

This guy opened for Ratatat and he was wearing THE coolest shirt ever.  The bars lit up on it... AND they moved to the beat of his music.  I bet he got so much ass that night just because of that t-shirt.  And rightly so.  Rightly so...

A picture we took with the lead guitarist from Ratatat (L to R: Mahesh, Mars, Jesus or the guy from Ratatat, Joe, me).  If you notice, he's casting a look of suspicion at the beer in my hand.  Probably because that's one of the many beers we stole from him backstage.  We didn't steal the crack though.  Stealing crack isn't cool.  Oh, and drugs are bad.  Don't do drugs.
